Athens vs Van  11/26/07

 

7th Grade B(White)  Athens 19/Van 17

 

The 7th grade B team improves their record to 2-0 after last night's victory over the Van Vandals 19-17.  Deon Shofner led the way with 10 points.  Keelan Lawyer had 5 points, wile Jonathon Gonzalez had four points while crashing the boards for a number of rebounds.  The rest of the hornets played great defense to hold the vandals to 17 points. 

 

 

7th Grade A(Maroon) Athens 50/Van 17

 

The Hornets came out strong against the Vandals jumping out to a 28 - 6 half time lead and never looked back.   Anthony Taylor led the way with 13 points.  Jaylon Johnson added 10, Michael Baker poured in 9 and Javonte Johnson put in 8 points.  The entire team played great defense to hold Van to 17 points.

 

8th Grade B(White) Athens 25/Van 10

 

The fighting hornets came out blazing as there tenacious 2-3 zone and pressing defense catapulted their fast break and gave the hornets a lead they would never relinquish. The Hornets played a great all around game both on offense and defense. Andreas Brown put in 6 points, Terrance Behan also added 6 points, Patrick Clark with 4, Josh Fry put in 6 and Demarcus Mims had 3 points and controlled the boards.

 

8th Grade A(Maroon) Athens 61/Van 19

 

The Mighty Hornets were led by their outstanding efforts on the defensive end of the floor. Executing their game plan the Hornets held the Vandals to 4 points in the first quarter. The fighting Hornets were led by the outstanding defensive game of Zach Basher who had 10 blocks in the first half. He also put in 16 points. The Hornets were led in scoring by Kendal Preston who poured in 23 points along with numerous assists. Dewayne Hannah added 10 points, Kaleb Hurst had 8, and Cody Ramirez and Devon Johnson added 2 points respectively. The Mighty Hornets played great team defense forcing the Vandals to make several bad passes that led to fast break points for the Hornets. With great pressure defense and precision passing the Hornets took command of the game and never looked back

7th Grade White Team   Athens 22/Bullard  18

 

The Athens 7th grade B team did a great job last night in their first game of the year.  Leading scorers were Jonathon Gonzalez with 10 pts, and Keelan Lawyer with 7.  Taylor Johnson, Alex Hammac, Morgan Gimler all played superb Defense.  Cody Jones and Clint Sharp had a couple of steals, while Ryan Berry had two great blocks.  All together the young Hornets played an outstanding game to take their first victory of the season.

 

Maroon Team   Athens 40/Bullard    18

 

The young Hornets came out strong against Bullard out scoring 15-0 in the first quarter and holding a 21-1 half time lead.  Athens outscored Bullard 12-6 in the third for a 33-7 lead. The young Hornets finished out the game strong for the win.  Anthony Taylor was leading scorer for Athens with 12 points.  Jaylon Johnson scored 6 and Michael Baker put in 5 for the Hornets.  The team did a great job for their first victory. 

 

 

White Team   Athens 34/Bullard 22

 

The fighting Hornets came out with only seven players and played an excellent floor game. Led by Terrance Behan's 10 points the hornets fell under a 6-2 early lead to the bulldogs. The Hornets then got their tenacious 2-3 defense in to play and never looked back. Andreas Brown also played a wonderful floor game adding 8 points for the hornets. Corey Stuckey added 4, Greg Sanders with 4, Demarcus Mims with 4 and Cameron Bailey added 1.  Mims also gave the Hornets great rebounding and defense off the bench along with Corey Stucky. The Hornets whole team contributed to a great team effort getting a great season opening win.

 

Maroon Team   Athens 66/Bullard 33

 

The Hornets were led by three players in double digits with Kendall Preston's 27, Zach Basher's 15, Kaleb Hurst's 10. Josh Fry added 6, Dewayne Hannah with 5 and Devon Johnson with 3 respectively. The Hornets got an early lead with tenacious full court defense that stiffled the Bulldogs offense. The entire Hornet team contributed to the suffocating defense with several steals that ignited the Hornet fastbreak. The first showing of the year was an impressive win for the Hornets as they played great team basketball spreading the ball around and getting everyone involved.
