Maggie Mizell and the Athens High School One Act Play team were invited to Ross Perot’s business and museum in the Dallas area. The students were invited because of their production of the play Prisoner by James Bell. The day was spent touring the facility that contains many pieces of American history. At the end of the day, Mr. Perot made a personal appearance and spent about 45 minutes talking with our students about the rescue of the POWs. The focus of his discussion was “Never leave your men behind.”

Dear AISD Community:

In an effort to keep you updated, AISD has completed its investigation regarding an alleged altercation between some students at Athens Middle School as a result of a student's report on political protest.  All information gathered from surveillance video and student testimonies reveals that the allegations of assault are false and that the injuries on the student’s body were self inflicted.  The investigation findings have been turned over to the proper authorities and charges of filing a false testimony have been issued.

As part of AISD's policy, any threat or student complaint made to the Athens ISD police department is investigated.  AISD takes all safety matters seriously and is vigilant in continuing to provide a learning environment that is conducive to the success of all students.

I am proud of the administration of Athens Middle School and the Athens ISD police department for their handling of this situation.

Dr. Fred Hayes, Superintendent
