3 AHS band members make state
Three Athens High School band members distinguished themselves in January by advancing to the all-state level. They are (from left) Madison Rhodes, who won first place on flute and is now a two-time all-state musician; Elissa Comeaux, who took fifth place on clarinet; and Connor Wilcoxson, who took second place on percussion.
"These students have cemented their place in history as some of the very best musicians on their instrument in the entire state of Texas,” said AISD Director of Bands Stephen Morman.
The three juniors will be traveling with the band directors to Melissa, Texas, in June for the All-State Clinic/Convention. There they will meet and rehearse with their peers and perform in a concert of high-caliber music in just three short days.
“I am so very proud of their hard work and dedication,” said Morman. “I am also thankful for our band staff, who have spent countless hours with these students in lessons starting in the summer of 2020.”
