Athens High School sent two athletes to the UIL Region 2-4A cross country meet on Oct. 24 — and both advanced to the next level. Senior Jose Vazquez and freshman Donna Carpenter qualified to compete in the state meet on Nov. 4. Vazquez ran his 3-mile race with a time of 18:19:94 — sprinting at the end to beat another runner by six hundredths of a second and claim the last qualifying spot. Carpenter finished her 2-mile race with a time of 12:30:76. The 4A state meet will be held in Round Rock at Old Settlers Park. We're so proud of them both!
