Sixth-grader Charlie Horn was all smiles today meeting AHS class of '17 grad Maalik Hall. Maalik, who is in town for homecoming, signed this year as a free agent for the New York Jets and is on their injured reserve list. In 2016, he was a unanimous All-District fullback for Athens. As a linebacker for Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Maalik accounted for 23 tackles-for-loss over his final 22 collegiate appearances. In 11 games last fall, he led the team with 77 stops and 8 sacks. #HornetNation

🌟 Hooray for the Athens Public Education Foundation! Pictured is APEF President Cody Craig presenting Deputy Superintendent Ginger Morrison with a check for $30,000. The money will be divided among the campuses ($5,000 for each elementary, $7,000 for Athens Middle School and $8,000 for Athens High School) to fund the campuses' choice of end-of-year projects, celebrations or materials — such as books for students to keep, bounce houses, a hamburger cookout, outdoor games, canopies, and ice cream and coffee trucks. AISD is grateful for the hardworking APEF volunteers who bring joy to students and teachers! #HornetNation
