🎉🥁 The annual Athens Homecoming Parade is this Thursday, Sept. 12! 🥁🎺 The AHS band will kick off the excitement from the high school at 6 PM, marching the traditional route around the courthouse square and back. Let’s make this homecoming one to remember—see you there! 👏🐝 #SupportTheHornets #HornetNation #HomecomingParade

👉 Hornets, as our athletic season heats up, don’t forget that a clear bag policy is in place for all public events on AISD property. Diaper bags with infants or toddlers and bags with medical necessities are the only exceptions. Let’s ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone! #HornetNation

‼️ IMPORTANT UPDATE: Hornet families, an area of Athens that includes the high school, Central Athens and South Athens elementary campuses has lost power. Oncor does not expect power to be restored before 7:30 at the earliest. Consequently, as much as we hate to, we have no choice but to cancel the meet the teacher and freshman orientation events at these campuses, and due to multiple scheduling conflicts will be unable to reschedule before school starts. Please rest assured, though, that we will take great care of your children on Monday.

Students in Audrey Haley’s class at Central Athens Elementary create a fun chemical reaction by introducing yeast to a mix of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap and food coloring. The yeast breaks the hydrogen peroxide down into water and oxygen gas, with the escaping oxygen creating foamy bubbles. It’s a great way to learn science. Pictured (from left) are third-graders Jazmine Culver, Rosaisela Barcenas, Daleyza Rodriguez and Analyise Lee.

Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) are $1,500 one-time, on-line grants for eligible parents/caregivers of students served through special education. 🎅❤️ Christmas cuteness overload! Central Athens Elementary Pre-K3 student Waylen Jackson gives Santa (AKA David Deas) a heartfelt hug Thursday during picture time. We’re pretty sure Waylen made the “nice list" again this year. #JollyOldElf #HornetNation

🎅🎨 What talent we have at AISD! Central Athens Elementary fifth-grader Isabella Knigge is spreading holiday cheer with her fantastic artwork of Ol' Saint Nick. It was chosen from among several student submissions for the front of Athens ISD’s annual Christmas card. Isabella said she loves to draw and created her winning submission at home in half an hour. “Wow, you did that?” asked a classmate upon seeing the finished product. She did, indeed. Thanks, Isabella! #HornetNation
